Privacy Policy

Last updated October 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Eight Thirty (“Eight Thirty,” “we,” “us” or “our”) collects when you use our iPhone app, our website and our support channels (together, the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

It’s part of our Terms of Service. Words defined there, such as poster and claimer, mean the same thing here.

The short version

  • We don’t sell your information, and there are no ads in the app or on the website

  • Nobody sees who posted a table until they claim it

  • Card and bank details are held by Stripe, and Premium purchases by Apple. We never see your full card number

  • The app doesn’t use your location, contacts or camera

  • You can delete your account in the app at any time

1. What this policy covers

This policy covers information we handle about members and visitors when they use the Service. It doesn’t cover restaurants, booking platforms, Apple, Stripe or other companies you deal with directly. Their own privacy policies apply to what they collect.

2. Information you give us

Your account

  • Your email address and the name you choose

  • Your phone number and birthday (month and day), if you add them

  • An invite code, if someone invited you

Tables you post

  • The restaurant, date, time, party size and seating

  • The name the reservation is under, the confirmation code and the booking platform

  • Any deposit or late-cancel fee, and notes you add

  • A screenshot or email of your confirmation, if you share one, and proof of a charge if you ask to be paid back

Claims and activity

  • Tables you claim, hand back or take back, check-ins, no-shows and problems you report

  • Your alerts and the restaurants and neighborhoods you follow

  • Your Stars balance and history, and the friends you invite

Messages

  • Messages you exchange with another member about a claimed table

  • Messages you send our team through Help or by email

3. Information we collect automatically

  • Device and app details, such as your device model, operating system, app version, language and time zone

  • A push notification token, if you turn notifications on

  • Your IP address and records our servers keep when the app talks to them, such as the time of a request and any errors

  • On our website, basic visit statistics from our website host, such as pages viewed, the referring site, browser and approximate region

The app doesn’t ask for your location, contacts, camera or microphone. When you attach a screenshot, iOS shares only the image you choose.

4. Information from other sources

  • Apple tells us whether you have Premium, which plan you’re on and when it renews. Apple doesn’t share your payment details with us

  • Stripe tells us whether a payment or payout went through, and gives us limited card details, such as the brand and last four digits, and the status of your payout account. Stripe handles any identity checks for payouts

  • Other members may give us information about you, for example when they report a problem with a table you posted or claimed

  • Google and other public sources give us restaurant details such as addresses and hours. That information is about restaurants, not about you

5. How we use information

  • To run the Service: your account, posting, claiming, alerts, Stars, invites and messages

  • To check posts against their confirmations, including with automated tools that read screenshots and emails

  • To show the claimer the reservation details they need, at the right time

  • To charge deposits and late-cancel fees and to pay posters back

  • To send notifications and emails about your account and your tables

  • To answer your messages, including with automated tools that help draft replies

  • To prevent fraud and abuse, settle problems with a table, and enforce our Terms, including tracking no-shows

  • To understand how the Service is used and make it better

  • To meet legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of members, restaurants and Eight Thirty

We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t build profiles to sell or share.

6. Who we share information with

Other members

Nobody sees who posted a table until they claim it. The member who claims your table sees your first name, the name on the reservation and the confirmation code, and the two of you can message each other. If the claim ends, your name is hidden from them again. When you claim a table, the poster sees your first name.

Companies that help us

We share information with service providers who work on our behalf and may only use it to provide their services to us:

  • Apple, for the app, subscriptions and push notifications

  • Stripe, for cards, fees, deposits and payouts

  • Resend, to send email

  • Anthropic, to read confirmation screenshots and help draft replies to support messages. Anthropic’s commercial terms don’t allow it to train its models on this data

  • Google, for restaurant details

  • Our website host, and the providers that host our servers and database

Legal reasons

We may share information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, such as to respond to a subpoena or court order, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our members, restaurants, the public or Eight Thirty.

Business changes

If Eight Thirty is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that deal. This policy will continue to apply to it unless you’re told otherwise.

With your permission

We may share information in other ways when you ask us to or agree to it.

We may share information that’s been combined or stripped of anything that identifies you, for example the number of tables posted in a month.

7. Cookies and tracking

The app doesn’t include advertising or analytics trackers, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Our website uses only the cookies and similar tools it needs to work and to count visits. Because we don’t sell information or use it for targeted ads, there’s nothing to opt out of, and we treat browser signals like Global Privacy Control as a request not to sell or share.

8. How long we keep information

We keep your information while your account is open and for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your information within 30 days, except what we have to keep to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, handle chargebacks or enforce our Terms. Copies in backups are removed as the backups expire.

9. How we protect information

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit, limited access for our team and secure storage on your device for your sign-in. Card numbers are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of information you send us. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we’ll tell you as the law requires.

10. Your choices

  • Update your profile in the app under Account

  • Turn notifications on or off in the app or in your iPhone settings

  • Unsubscribe from any non-essential email using the link in the email. We’ll still send messages about your account and your tables

  • Delete your account in the app under Account

  • Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to support@eightthirty.app

11. Privacy rights in your state

Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other states with privacy laws, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use and share, and get a copy of it

  • Correct information that’s inaccurate

  • Delete your information

  • Opt out of the sale of your information, sharing for targeted advertising and certain profiling. We don’t do any of these

  • Appeal our decision if we turn down your request

  • Not be treated differently for using these rights

To make a request, write to support@eightthirty.app from the email on your account. We’ll confirm it’s you before acting, and we’ll respond within the time the law allows, usually 45 days. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.

12. Children

Eight Thirty is for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, write to support@eightthirty.app and we’ll delete it.

13. Where we process information

Eight Thirty serves New York City, and we and our service providers process information in the United States. If you use the Service from somewhere else, your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make an important change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we’ll update the date at the top of this page.

15. Contact us

Questions about this policy or your information can go to support@eightthirty.app, or to Help in the app.
